The General Assembly Hall is seen at the United Nations headquarters in New York City September 18, 2015. As leaders from almost 200 nations gather for the annual general assembly at the United Nations, the world body created 70 years ago, Reuters photographer Mike Segar documented quieter moments at the famed 18-acre headquarters on Manhattan's East Side. The U.N., established as the successor to the failed League of Nations after World War Two to prevent a similar conflict from occurring again, attracts more than a million visitors every year to its iconic New York site. The marathon of speeches and meetings this year will address issues from the migrant crisis in Europe to climate change and the fight against terrorism. ALERT: The United States and partners across in the United Nations on Thursday said that they will hold Russia accountable for War crimes the US and allies said. Countries as Ireland has also joined in with the United States into holding Russia accountable as they suggest. Ireland continues to support Ukraine and the problems facing the country, in fact being one of the first to do so.

“We’ve received credible reports of Russian forces torturing and committing execution style killings of people with their hands bound behind their back,”“We’ve received reports of women and girls being raped, some publicly, and children taken away into Russia and put up for adoption. And we know that Russian forces continue to deny safe passage to civilians fleeing violence, and to humanitarian organizations trying to reach those in need.”

U.S. Undersecretary of State Uzra Zeya

The United States is trying to do so by using the ICC, the International Criminal Court to pursue allegations of Russian war crimes. But Vasily Nebenzya the current Russian ambassador to the United Nations lashed out and spoke by saying the U.S and allies are trying to use the ICC “as a political tool,” he added and said “neither the ICC nor the West are bothered about numerous crimes of the Kyiv regime”

The person who presided over the United Nations meeting that day who was the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama said “basic values enshrined in the growing body of international law, humanitarian law, international human rights law, and international criminal law continue to be systematically and grossly violated.”
