Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan becomes UAE President after becoming Emir of Abu Dhabi

Emir Zayed the younger of the deceased Emir of Abu Dhabi has been elected as the President of the UAE after the royal family of Abu Dhabi have a new ruler of the country. Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan or MBZ has served as the de-facto ruler of the country but formally took the position of leading it after his brother Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away yesterday.

The people of the Emirates are united in grief as we mourn the loss of our leader and President, Khalifa bin Zayed. My brother and mentor, and the UAE’s first son, we were blessed by your strength, wisdom and leadership. May God have mercy on your soul and may you rest in peace.

The new ruler of Abu Dhabi was expected to become the President of the UAE after the traditions of having every Emir of Abu Dhabi become the President of the United Arab Emirates which in turn will make the President the Supreme commander of the armed forces of the UAE.

The President is the leader who appoints usually and traditional an emir of Dubai as the vice president who in turn also serves as prime minister which is the head of the UAE government and also the minister of defense of the country who currently is Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
